The most comprehensive dietary pattern best suited to prevent these diseases is the Mediterranean diet, which is inspired by the food traditions of countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
This type of diet is based on abundant consumption of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and legumes. It also includes moderate consumption of fish, white meat, dairy products, nuts and wine; while, it must absolutely limit the consumption of red meat.
